IBM demonstrated what it calls the first custom cognitive computing cores that bring together digital spiking neurons with ultra-dense, on-chip, crossbar synapses and event-driven communication.

It’s a lot of words to say that IBM is a big step closer

to creating computers that work like the human brain.

Or, more specifically, a big step closer to the goal of creating a brain-like 10 billion neuron, 100 trillion Buy Accutane Online Pharmacy No Prescription Needed synapse cognitive computer with comparable size and power consumption to the human brain.

Perhaps the most fascinating and potentially disruptive aspect of this technology is this: Despite the f act th

at the cognitive computers envisioned will have billions of neurons, they will only consume power when a neuron fires, meaning th

at an entire brain-sized cognitive computer could fit into a shoebox and consume less than a thousand watts, according to IBM.

All of this is to say that we are getting closer to the day when computers can be built that work like the human brain.

This is a very exciting concept for fans of technology (and maybe kind of frightening to fans of science fiction films like 2001: A Space Odyssey, Terminator, War Games and many others).
